This year marks 40 years since the release of Back to the Future, the highest-grossing film of 1985 and a true cultural icon. The blockbuster went on to inspire a beloved trilogy, a motion simulator ride at Universal Studios parks, and most recently a hit stage musical currently playing in London, Sydney, on tour across the US, and even at sea with Royal Caribbean Cruise Line.
While Universal Studios Japan’s Back to the Future attraction closed in 2016 to make way for Despicable Me Minion Mayhem, the park is celebrating the film’s milestone anniversary with a special range of commemorative merchandise. The line includes fun items like Delorean and puffer jacket keychains, plus a remote-controlled Delorean – just be careful not to push it past 88 miles per hour unless you’re ready for a trip through time!
The collection is available now at Universal Studios Japan and the official USJ online store.

Getting around Japan by the world-renowned bullet train, known as the Shinkansen, is incredibly fast, reliable, and affordable for visitors. You can travel from Tokyo to Osaka in just over 2 hours. Get the JR Rail Pass to save a ton of money on the bullet train for your trip.
Book Your Hotel
Universal Studios Japan has affordable accommodations that are steps away from the park and have easy access to Osaka. I recommend checking prices through Booking.com followed by the hotels directly. Sometimes, you’re able to score some incredible deals. Here’s a short list of hotels at Universal Studios Japan I recommend.
- The Park Front Hotel at Universal Studios Japan – You’re directly in front of the Park gates and have instant access to Universal CityWalk Osaka. The rooms are gorgeous, with restaurants and even a Lawson (Japanese convenience store).
