“Beauty and the Beast” Musical Opens at Tokyo Disney Resort in 2022

“Beauty and the Beast” is heading back to the stage! Japan’s Shiki Theater Company in association with Disney Theatrical Productions announced a reimagined and redesigned production of Disney’s “Beauty and the Beast” which will open in October 2022 at Maihama Amphitheater, located in Tokyo Disney Resort beside the Disney Ambassador Hotel.

Beauty and The Beast Reimagined

The original award-winning creative team, including composer Alan Menken and lyricist Tim Rice, have returned to lead to the reimagining of the beloved musical for the 21st century. The reimaged production is set to include an all-new script, set design, costumes, choreography and special effects.

The Shiki Theatre Company is no stranger to Disney musicals, having previously staged The Lion King, Frozen, Aladdin, The Little Mermaid and The Hunchback of Notre Dame. The Shiki Theatre company was behind the original 1995 Japanese production of Beauty and The Beast which has since been performed over 5,675 times across 9 cities.

“Beauty and the Beast” was the first Disney title to be adapted into a Broadway musical, premiering at the Palace Theatre in 1994 prior to transferring to the Lunt-Fontanne Theatre. The production ran for 13 years and was nominated for 9 Tony Awards.

Ticket information and performance schedules will be announced at a later time.

There are tons to do at Tokyo Disney Resort if you’re a fan of Beauty and the Beast, including the new attraction that opened last year at Tokyo Disneyland!
