Shanghai Disney Resort is welcoming the Year of the Horse with a Spring Festival celebration, blending traditional Lunar New Year customs with Disney storytelling. Bullseye from Toy Story makes his zodiac debut, Mickey and Friends dress for good fortune, and the entire resort transforms with horse-inspired decorations, festive entertainment, seasonal food, and exclusive merchandise.
Shanghai Disney Resort’s Year of the Horse celebration will be offered from January 28 until March 3.
Decorations
The Year of the Horse takes centre stage across Shanghai Disney Resort, with bold red and gold decorations filling every corner of the park. Mickey Avenue is lined with horse-shaped lanterns, while hanging displays show Mickey and Friends riding alongside their trusty steeds.
The Gardens of Imagination feature a giant illuminated horse lantern that will become a must-stop photo location. Bullseye leads the celebration with themed decorations at the entrance to Mickey Avenue and within the Garden of the Twelve Friends, which transforms into a Wishing Garden for the season.
Character Greetings
Bullseye makes his Shanghai Disney Resort debut as the official zodiac character of the Year of the Horse, appearing in a special Welcome Moment at the Pepsi E-Stage. Throughout the season, guests may also spot him during the Spring Festival Drum Ceremony and around Disney Pixar Toy Story Land.
Mickey and Friends embrace the festivities in vibrant Chinese-style outfits featuring horse motifs, gold ingots, and embroidered patterns symbolising prosperity. Mickey’s look includes a koi fish hat and horse-embroidered jacket, while Minnie wears a water-drop collar top and a horse-themed sachet.
Duffy and Friends also join in with soft pastel outfits inspired by traditional Chinese fashion, complete with floral embroidery and Year of the Horse details. Over in the Hundred Acre Wood, Winnie the Pooh and Friends bundle up in cosy red scarves with festive accents.
Food and Drink
During the celebration, The Royal Banquet Hall offers special family-style set menus filled with symbolic dishes like fish, representing prosperity. Similar sharing feasts are available at Barbossa’s Bounty and Pinocchio Village Kitchen, each adding its own flavour to the celebrations.
For dessert, citrus-themed treats bring good fortune, including mandarin sorbets, kumquat ice cream, and orange and hawthorn crepes. Zootopia fans can also pick up Winddancer-themed cotton candy and hot chocolate around the park.
Entertainment and Shows
Mickey Avenue Shanghai Swing invites guests to dance into the New Year with Mickey and Friends, followed by a lucky greeting from Goofy dressed as the God of Fortune. The First Day of the Year of the Horse is marked with a lively ceremony that kicks off the celebrations in style.
Each night during the core Spring Festival period, the fireworks spectacular Spring Festival Celebration: Our Families returns, lighting up the sky with vibrant displays including the Chinese character for horse.
Merchandise
Exclusive Year of the Horse merchandise collections roll out across the resort, perfect for gifts or festive keepsakes. The Spring Festival Mickey and Friends Collection features horse-riding designs inspired by traditional folk art, available across apparel, home décor, and New Year accessories.
Meanwhile, a Zootopia Collection brings playful horse hats, red scarves, plush toys, and family-friendly fleeces, while Winddancer-themed items appear throughout the park. Other highlights include the Bullseye Collection, blending Toy Story charm with New Year flair, plus themed lines for Goofy, Scrooge McDuck, and Winnie the Pooh and Friends, each with unique horse-inspired touches.
