The Center Street Coffeehouse is an Art Deco table service restaurant in the World Bazaar. This small and unassuming spot is perfect to escape the crowds and indulge in light French pastries, decadent desserts, and French pressed coffee. Is it worth it to make a reservation? Here’s our review of this lovely and easy-to-miss restaurant at Tokyo Disneyland.

Atmosphere & Decor

The prominent Art Deco style is noticeable even before you enter the restaurant. The lettering and signage are executed flawlessly and fit the walkway to Tomorrowland from the World Bazaar brilliantly. Once inside, the theming is carried throughout the restaurant.

Portraits on the wall have various characters from the Aristocats, which include Marie, Berlioz, and Duchess. That’s where the Disney theme ends (which is a good or bad thing, depending on how you want to look at it.)  I personally enjoy the subtle Disney themes throughout mixed in with the Art Deco style. If you want that over-the-top Disney design, then The Queen of Hearts Royal Banquet Hall is a better fit for you.

The tables are laid out in a gigantic open space, which carries the sound of clinking glasses and tableware. This amplifies the “coffeehouse” vibe, and I love it. Pair that with the Cast Members’ costumes and it’s as if you are transported back into the 1920s-1930s.

Eats

The Coffeehouse serves light French pastries with adorable Mickey imprints until 10:00 every day. These come with a coffee, salad, and soup for about ¥1480. Perfect for those that don’t want to bother with the hustle and bustle of the FastPass run first thing in the morning.

My personal favourite is the grilled steak set with the Mickey-shaped butter, salad, sausage, corn cream or vegetable soup, and choice of drink (unlimited refills) for about ¥2880. They also serve similar dishes with pork, hamburger (Salisbury steak), herb chicken, and seafood. The steak is the most expensive option on the menu. The dishes are perfect if you are looking for something familiar.

Japan is not known for its steak (except for Kobe Beef or the steak at Magellan’s at Tokyo DisneySea), so I figured the steak would just be “all right”. While the steak doesn’t touch the quality of what they serve at Magellan’s, it is a fantastic — and cheaper — alternative. It’s a little on the thin side, but it’s juicy and the Mickey-shaped butter adds that final touch. The rest of the food items served are rather basic and get the job done. They are good but aren’t anything special.

For dessert, you cannot go wrong with either the hot apple pie or banana raspberry tart. Last but not least, a coffeehouse is not complete without actual coffee. I just had their basic drip coffee, which was better than I expected for drip coffee. They also offer French Press Coffee, Cafe Mocha, and floats!

Overall, the food is enjoyable and familiar. While it doesn’t even come close to some places in Tokyo DisneySea such as Magellan’s or Ristorante Di Canaletto, it’s one of the better options for table service at Tokyo Disneyland.  (There’s not much choice anyway.)

Maximize your experience at Center Street Coffeehouse by following our recommendations:

• Head to the restaurant at 10AM to make your priority seating (reservation) for lunch or dinner. They start taking reservations in the Park starting at this time.
• Order the Grilled Steak.
• Refills with the set meals are unlimited, so take advantage of it. You can change your drink if you wish.
• If you want something more than drip coffee, order the French Pressed Coffee.
• If you or someone in your party has allergies, they offer an allergy-free set meal.

Verdict

The Art Deco theme is spot on and while the Disney theming is rather subtle, it works. Fans of the Aristocats will enjoy the portraits strung along the walls. The dishes are familiar and while are not earth-shattering in terms of taste, it’s basic and sometimes that is all you need — with that cute Disney touch.

If you want a low-key dining experience at Tokyo Disneyland, then the Center Street Coffeehouse is in the wheelhouse.
