Demon Slayer Collaboration Coming to Universal Studios Japan

Universal Studios Japan has announced that a collaboration with Demon Slayer, the massively popular anime, is coming to the park for a limited time, starting September 17, 2021, through February 13, 2022! There are no other details as of this writing except that this collaboration will be something we’ve never seen before.

In the past, Universal Studios Japan has done collaborations for its Cool Japan event that’s included other world-renowned franchises and anime such as Attack on Titan, Final Fantasy, Sailor Moon, and Monster Hunter, to name a few.

Here’s what to expect for the Demon Slayer collaboration at Universal Studios Japan!

Kimetsu no Yaiba XR Ride

A VR overlay of the popular Space Fantasy ride is getting the Demon Slayer makeover. Where you’ll get aboard the train that seems to follows the story of the “Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba the Movie: Mugen Train” film. The film was the highest-grossing film of 2020 worldwide, along with the highest-grossing anime and Japanese film of all time.

Suffice to say, this attraction is going to be popular!

Space Fantasy is an indoor coaster that is frequently used for these VR overlays. In the past, we’ve seen Attack on Titan, Final Fantasy, Evangelion, and even Doraemon.

The attraction starts September 17, 2021, through February 13, 2022.

For a limited time, you’ll be able to hear the voices of the popular characters from Demon Slayer when you ride the popular coaster Hollywood Dream The Ride! This experience is only for the Hollydream The Ride version of the coaster and not the Hollywood Dream The Ride ~Backdrop~.

There are two versions of this overlay that are running at different times:

  • September 17, 2021, through November 7, 2021
  • November 8, 2021, through February 13, 2022

We’re not sure if this is available in English or other languages other than Japanese.

Demon Slayer Food & Merchandise

No details are released yet for food and merchandise for Demon Slayer at Universal Studios Japan. Once the event gets closer, we’ll update this with any new information! According to the map, there is a shop with Demon Slayer merchandise, the one that is attached to the Space Fantasy building.

What is Demon Slayer?

Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba, or simply Kimetsu no Yaiba in Japan, is a Japanese manga series, anime tv show, and featured film. The manga has over 150 million copies in circulation. The anime is considered one of the best anime of the 2010s. The film “Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba the Movie: Mugen Train” is the highest-grossing anime film and Japanese film of all time.

If that doesn’t scream popular, then I don’t know what does.

This collaboration with Universal Studios Japan comes as no surprise, and it wasn’t a matter of “if” but a matter of “when.” Well, now we know. Universal Studios Japan doesn’t hesitate when it comes to teaming up with pop culture in Japan.

If the recently opened Super Nintendo World wasn’t enough reason to visit Universal Studios Japan, this Demon Slayer collab gives you even more reasons to visit.

Book Your Hotel

Universal Studios Japan has affordable accommodations that are steps away from the Park with easy access to Osaka. I recommend checking prices through Booking.com followed by the hotels directly. Sometimes you’re able to score some incredible deals. Here’s a short list of hotels at Universal Studios Japan I recommend.

  • The Park Front Hotel at Universal Studios Japan – You’re directly in front of the Park gates and have instant access to Universal CityWalk Osaka. The rooms are gorgeous, with restaurants and even a Lawson (Japanese convenience store).
  • The Singulari HOTEL & SKYSPA – Attached to the train station is a fantastic hotel for those who want a comfortable, clean, and stylish place to sleep. After a long day at Universal Studios Japan, the rooftop sento (public bath) is excellent for unwinding and relaxing.

Stay Connected

Universal Studios Japan only offers free Wi-Fi at the entrance to the Park. That’s not enough to stay connected and share your day with everyone back home to give them FOMO on Instagram. Here’s how you can stay connected while travelling in Japan.

  • Pocket Wi-Fi – If you’re travelling with a group or have multiple devices, this is your best and most affordable way to stay connected to the internet. Pick up and drop off at the airport. Easy.
  • Japan SIM Card – If you have an unlocked phone and need a Japanese phone number, this is the best and easiest way.

Get Yourself Travel Insurance

While travelling aboard, having travel insurance protects you against injury, cancellations, illness, and other things you can never predict. Whenever I travel, I always budget for travel insurance to protect myself. I’ve used it, and I’m so glad I had it. My recommended companies are SafteyWing and  World Nomads for travel insurance.
