What Kind of Food to Expect

One of the biggest worries when travelling to a foreign country is food. The food at Tokyo Disney Resort is catered to the Japanese pallete, which means there are items on the menu that you may find odd or unappealing—sweet potato, kabocha (Japanese pumpkin), seaweed, shrimp, and root vegetables just to name a few.
But don’t you worry, there are tons of options for those who are not adventurous in their palette or want something familiar. Cheeseburgers, fries, chicken, pizza, chicken nuggets, steak, etc are available at various restaurants throughout the resort. There’s also plenty of options for beverages from bottled green tea to coke.
You will find something you and your party can enjoy, even with allergies. If you or someone in your party is vegan or vegetarian we have guides for both Tokyo Disneyland and Tokyo DisneySea.
Customizing your order is usually not possible unless you have an allergy—even then they may ask you to order from the allergen menu. Whatever the meal or food item comes with, is what you are going to get. This is not unique to the parks but is quite common throughout Japan. If you want to remove something from your order, you can try these phrases listed here.
We’re always creating new videos showcasing the latest food and snacks. Watch our videos below to see what’s new! Also, don’t forget to subscribe to never miss a new video.
Type of Drinks to Expect

The parks serve a variety of drinks ranging from cold bottled green tea to alcoholic cocktails to over-the-top sweet drinks. A variety of coke products are available. The park (or Japan) doesn’t have diet coke but does serve coke zero. The seasonal drinks change with each event, so keep an eye on our updates to see what’s available.
Tokyo DisneySea is the only park that offers alcoholic beverages. A wide variety of restaurants and food stands serve various beer and cocktails. Read our full drinking guide to help decide what to drink.
To save yourself money, bring a refillable bottle to fill up at the restaurants in the parks.
Snacks & Popcorn

Snacks and popcorn selection are one of the strong points at both Tokyo Disneyland and Tokyo DisneySea. Our list of recommendations is found almost all-year-round! These are the staples you cannot miss when you visit.
Seasonal & Event Food

The parks and hotels offer seasonal dishes, snacks, cocktails, and drinks throughout the year. These change with every event at the resort. If you are in the parks, grab a Today Guide in Japanese, which lists all the seasonal items (the non-Japanese guides do not show this). While it is all in Japanese, the pictures are easy to point to and ask a Cast Member where to find it.
Read our updated food and snacks list where you’ll find an updated list of seasonal snacks to try during your visit!
How to Order

Not all Cast Members are fluent in English. But, you have nothing to worry about. If there are communication problems, quick service Cast Members have a printed menu for you to point at. The menus at table service restaurants have English on them.
If you want to try your Japanese, we have some phrases you can learn.
Where To Eat

From elegant dining to food carts, there is no shortage of places to eat. The official website lists all their restaurants for both Tokyo Disneyland and Tokyo DisneySea, along with the type of food served.
Our updated list of restaurant reviews helps you decide which restaurants are worth your time. Or, skip right to our top recommendations for table service and counter service restaurants for both parks. Watch our videos below that take you through some of the restaurants at the Parks.
If you wish to save some money, you can bring small snacks into the parks. If you want to bring a meal, there are designated picnic areas outside both parks. At Tokyo Disneyland, this is to the left of the park gates. Tokyo DisneySea is at the foot of the staircase leading to the MiraCosta Hotel (the gates facing the bus stop).
Here’s where to buy snacks/small meals outside the parks:
- The grocery store in the basement of Ikspirari
- New Day’s convenience store right at Maihama Station
- Convenience stores at both Tokyo Disneyland Hotel and Disney Ambassador Hotel
Can I bring in outside food to Tokyo Disneyland or Tokyo DisneySea? Bringing in small snacks and drinks is totally acceptable. If you want more than that, you’ll have to eat in the picnic areas outside both Parks.
Restaurant Menus
Outside each restaurant is full or semi-partial menus with either full plastic food displays (which Japan is well-known for) or a printed menu board. Use this to check if they have something you crave before you order or hop in line.
There are menus available online, but only in Japanese. You can use Google Translate to make your way through or check out our translated menus for both Tokyo Disneyland and Tokyo DisneySea.
Restaurant Reservations

Tokyo Disney Resort offers what’s called “Priority Seating,” which simply means restaurant reservations. You’re able to make reservations for all table services either online or in-person on the day of your visit. Read my list of recommended table service restaurants here. The only exceptions are the Disney Hotel Lounges and the Teddy Roosevelt Lounge, which do not require advance reservations.
There are three ways to make reservations, which I’ll cover here for you:
- Online Reservations
- Same-Day Reservations
- Stand-by
Online Restaurant Reservations
As of October 1, 2019, online reservations are now available in English for both Disney Hotel and Regular Guests. Before reservations in English were only available to Disney Hotel Guests.
You’re able to make restaurant reservations online (in English) up to 30-days in advance starting at 10:00 (Japan Time). Simply log in with your Tokyo Disney Resort account (if you don’t have one you’ll need to create one) and navigate to either “Restaurants” or “Show Restaurant” from the top menu. Keep in mind that the reservation system is offline every day between 03:00 and 05:00 (Japan Time).
Note: Some restaurants are showing reservations open up to 6-months in advance. I’m not sure why this is, it could be an issue with the reservation system.
Reservations by Telephone: Making reservations by phone is possible. When you call, ask for an English speaking Cast Member. Check the official website for the number and hours. Reservations are accepted up to 30-days in advance.
Same-Day Reservations
Don’t worry, if you aren’t able to make a reservation before the day of your visit, you’re able to still make a reservation right at the restaurant starting at 10:00 or online starting at 09:00. You may not get the time slot you wish, so make sure you’re flexible with your time.
Stand-By Line
All table service restaurants will have a stand-by line, providing the wait time isn’t too long. The Cast Member should inform you how long the wait is. The only exception is Magellan’s, which often doesn’t allow stand-by. This is my absolute favourite restaurant at the Resort, so I recommend making the effort to reserve in advance.
Character Dining
The only character dining experience is Chef Mickey at the Disney Ambassador Hotel. This requires an advance reservation and does not accept walk-ups. Breakfast is only available for guests staying at the Disney Ambassador Hotel, while lunch and dinner are available for non-Hotel Guests too. Don’t worry, lunch and dinner also have Mickey and friends wandering around for a photo during your meal!
Dinner & Lunch Character Dining
There are four dinna and lunch shows which require advanced reservations. While they may have same-day openings, these are popular and fill up fast. I recommend booking right at the 30-day mark at 10:00 (JST) to ensure you get the show you want.
- Polynesian Terrace Restaurant
- Lilo’s Luau & Fun (Lunch Show)
- Mickey’s Rainbow Luau (Dinner Show)
- The Diamond Horseshoe
- Horseshoe Roundup (Lunch Show)
- The Diamond Horseshoe Presents “Mickey & Co.” (Dinner Show)
My favourite shows at The Diamond Horseshoe Presents “Mickey & Co.” and Mickey’s Rainbow Luau. I prefer doing a dinner show compared to a lunch show since it’s a lot of food and I’m usually running around the park all day.
