Big news for Disney fans in Japan. Oriental Land Company (OLC) has announced the creation of a new subsidiary, Oriental Land Cruises Co., Ltd., setting the stage for Disney Cruise Line to finally sail from Japan, with operations targeted to begin in fiscal year 2028. The exciting development is part of OLC’s long-term strategy to expand beyond Tokyo Disney Resort.
Fully owned by Oriental Land and based in Urayasu, the subsidiary will handle the planning, development, and operation of Disney cruise ships departing from Japan. Branded as Disney Cruise Line Japan, this marks the first time Disney ships will be homeported in the country. The move will mark the first instance of a Disney Cruise ship being owned and operated by an organization outside of the Walt Disney Company.
The first vessel will be modelled on the Disney Wish, Disney Cruise Line’s newest ship class, but customised for Japanese guests. Oriental Land is working closely with Disney to adapt onboard entertainment, ship design, and operational details to meet Japan’s standards and guest expectations. Construction is scheduled to begin in the latter half of fiscal year 2026.
