Ghibli Park is Getting A Real-Life Catbus Shuttle • TDR Explorer

Fans of Studio Ghibli have reason to rejoice as the beloved Catbus from Hayao Miyazaki’s enchanting film 1988 “My Neighbor Totoro” is gearing up to roll off the big screen and into reality!

Ghibli Park has announced that five Catbus shuttles will start operations at Ghibli Park on March 11, 2024, shuttling guests around Expo 2005 Aichi Commemorative Park, which is host to the theme park. The Catbus shuttle is a short-range, prototype based on a Toyota APM (Accessible People Mover) electric vehicle that reaches a maximum speed of 19km per hour.

The whimsical people mover is designed to look like the Catbus featured in the film, complete with mouse headlights, a destination sign, and a furry tail. The vehicle also features plush furry seats.

The Catbus Shuttle has three rows of seats, with a driver’s seat in the first row, three seats in the second row, and two seats in the third row, for a total of six people. The second row can be folded down to accommodate wheelchair users. Information regarding pricing and route information will be announced in the coming months.
