Interactive Tea House Experience at TeamLab Borderless Azabudai Hills

Starting this July, the “EN TEA HOUSE – Genkatei” located at teamLab Borderless in Azabudai Hills, Tokyo, will offer visitors a unique and immersive experience combining art and tea culture. Utilising state-of-the-art projection technology, visitors will see their tea house items transform before their eyes.

Guests visiting En Tea House can enjoy a menu of frozen yuzu matcha (matcha, yuzu and oat milk gelato) and your choice of tea. The vegan green tea gelato is made with oat milk and features the rich bitterness and gentle sweetness of matcha topped with spray-dried powdered yuzu juice.

As you pour your cup of tea, the cup will come alive with blooming flowers. As you drink your tea, the flowers within your cup bloom and scatter, with the size of the flowers that bloom changing depending on the amount of tea in the cup. The experience continues as long as there’s tea in the cup.

Choices of tea include cold brewed green tea, cold brewed green tea with yuzu, yuzu green tea, roasted tea chamomile rice milk latte, hojicha lemongrass rice milk latte and barley tea rice milk latte.

When placed on the tabletop, the frozen yuzu matcha gelato will bloom into a tea plant. When the frozen tea is moved, the tea plants die and regrow in the new location. When the gelato is finished, the tea plants die and disappear. The artwork is forever changing, with no seating being the same.

The work Enso – Cold Light is also on display inside teamLab Borderless’s EN TEA HOUSE. Enso-Cold Light will be on display from March to September, followed by Enso-Gold Light from October to February.
