Mayor of an Okinawa City wants a Disney Resort in Place of US Military Base

The mayor of an Okinawa (south islands of Japan) City has expressed interest in building a Disney Resort where the US Air Force base is located, after it’s been vacated. Moving the base is a contentious local issue, and there is no firm timeline as to when it might happen.

Oriental Land Company isn’t saying much about the idea.

A spokesperson at Oriental Land Company confirmed to Kyodo News that the city of Ginowan has asked the company to build a facility there, but added that the company “has just received such a request and will take time in studying it”.
