The Disney Store Japan continues to pump out the new merchandise and shows no signs of stopping. It was only a few weeks ago that we got the new Sushi Tsum Tsum line. Now we have, what I think is the best line of the year, this new “ukiyoe” style merchandise with Mickey at the forefront.
It’s available now at the Disney Store Japan and through the official website (ships within Japan only, unfortunately). I’ll explain at the end of this post how you can buy it outside of Japan.
Mickey Mouse Ukiyoe Merchandise
What’s ukiyoe you ask? It’s a genre of Japanese art style that was established in the Edo period and is traced back to the late 17th century. In other words, this art style has a lot of historical and cultural significance.
There’s a good chance you’ve seen ukiyoe without even realizing it. The famous woodblock print “The Great Wave off Kanagawa” is one I’m sure you’ve seen at some point.
This line of merchandise is gorgeous and I love how true it is to the ukiyoe style. It’s clear this was designed with tourists in mind for the now postponed Summer Olympics.
You’ll find the whole line on the Shop Disney Japan website complete with prices. While they don’t ship outside Japan, I recommend checking with DisneyFindsJapan on Instagram or one of these proxy shipping services.
