On February 28, 2019, the Official Tokyo Disney Resort Blog shared a photo of costumes in the new show “Tip-Top Easter” at Tokyo DisneySea. The photo shows Mickey and Minnie in their colourful Easter outfits for the brand new show as part of the Disney’s Easter event starting April 4, 2019. That’s not the most interesting part, even though the costumes are cute, it’s the fact that Mickey and Minnie are shown with their “new” faces.
While there’s no official announcement this confirms the new faces are coming to Tokyo Disney Resort. It’s not known if the new faces are only for the Tip-Top Easter show or if a full rollout happens at the same time for the entire Resort.
Until now, Tokyo Disney Resort was the last of the Disney Parks to debut the new faces. While we don’t know the reasoning, it’s more likely to do with the Resort in Japan is owned and operated by Oriental Land Co., Ltd. Here’s what we know so far.
Things to Know
There’s not much information at the moment, but we’ll update this as more becomes available.
- New faces are coming to the new Tip-Top Easter show at Tokyo DisneySea on April 4, 2019
- It’s not known how or when the rest of the Resort debuts the new faces (greetings, parades, stage shows, etc.)
- The current faces have been around since 1993
When the new faces began debuting at the other Disney Parks around the world, they were all done differently. Disneyland Resort, Hong Kong Disneyland, and Aulani were done all at once. Shanghai Disneyland opened with the new faces in 2016. Then over at Disneyland Paris and Walt Disney World, these were done over the course of 6 months to a year.
What to Expect
Here’s what I expect to happen with the news. This is simply my opinion and what actually happens could be different.
- Huge wait times for all greetings with Mickey & Minnie
- Entrance at Tokyo Disneyland & Tokyo DisneySea
- Mickey’s House in Toontown
- Mickey & Friends’ Greeting Trails
- The new faces will be in the Tip-Top Easter show during the previews
With the changes, I’d expect many fans queuing up to get their last photos with the current faces. If you’d like to do a greeting, I recommend making it the first thing you do in the morning when the Parks open. For more on character greetings, I recommend our premium ebook travel guide that goes in-depth on how character greetings work. The official website for both Tokyo Disneyland & Tokyo DisneySea also has information.
Before any new event, there are always previews. The new Tip-Top Easter show at Tokyo DisneySea should have a preview on April 3, 2019, the day before the event begins. There may be previews a few days before too. These are unannounced and you’ll need to check the times board in the Park.
I’d expect the current faces to stay until at least the end of the Tokyo Disney Resort 35th Anniversary. This event ends after March 25, 2019.
I’ve become used to the “new” faces since they made their debut at Shanghai Disneyland and Hong Kong Disneyland on this side of the world. I knew it was only a matter of time before this version made its way to Tokyo Disney Resort. It’ll take some adjustment, but like the other Resorts, I’ll get used to it.
