Shanghai Disneyland Celebrates First Anniversary

Shanghai Disneyland celebrated its first anniversary in style by treating special guests to a fireworks and projection spectacular. The ceremony marks the end of a monumental year of Disney firsts, milestones and awards for the park.

The centrepiece of the celebrations was a unique ceremony with a specially created video montage, including guests’ photos from the Park’s first year, projected onto the Enchanted Storybook Castle. The show was accompanied by a special Mandarin version of “When You Wish Upon a Star” as lanterns representing good fortune for the past, present and future floated above the park.

It’s hard to believe, after a bumpy road to completion, Shanghai Disneyland Resort opened a whole year ago. The park boasts the tallest castle in any Disney park, a unique pirate-themed land, and park exclusive high-tech rides. The opening drew huge crowds, and Chinese and foreign visitors have flocked to the park throughout the year.

In the weeks before the anniversary, Shanghai Disneyland welcomed its 10 millionth guest, making it the most successful theme park opening in China. This huge popularity looks set to continue with the park’s first expansion, a new Toy Story Land, opening in 2018.

As well as huge numbers of guests, the park has attracted critical praise and won awards from the Themed Entertainment Association (TEA), International Association of Amusement Parks and Attractions (IAAPA), Visual Effects Society (VES) and China Association of Amusement Parks and Attractions (CAAPA).

Overall, it’s been a truly amazing year for Shanghai Disneyland and we look forward to seeing what’s in store for the future!
