Zootopia Expansion Coming to Shanghai Disneyland in Late 2023

A Zootopia-themed land is set to open at Shanghai Disneyland in late 2023, bringing guests into the world of the smash hit Disney film. The as-yet-unnamed Zootopia land will be the park’s eighth themed land and second major expansion, following the opening of Toy Story Land in April 2018.

The first-ever Zootopia land in any Disney Park will include an attraction that seamlessly blends Disney storytelling and state-of-the-art technology, bringing the world and characters of the movie to life. The land promises exciting entertainment, merchandise, and casual dining offerings.

As guests step into the land, they will find themselves instantly enveloped in the world of Zootopia as they walk down Mane Street, the city’s bustling main thoroughfare with storefronts of varying sizes, all leading to the heart of the city – Savannah Central.

The Zootopia streetscape will come alive with Zootopia characters appearing within the uniquely designed windows along Mane Street. Guests can encounter characters from the film including Fru Fru and her father Mr. Big, Koslov the polar bear, Flash the sloth, Yax the yak, and the Hopps family. Characters will appear throughout the day, brought to life using advanced puppetry techniques.

Guests in the mood for a sweat treat can visit Jumbeaux’s Cafe, an ice cream kiosk directly inspired by the cafe Judy and Nick visit. Guests can enjoy food and beverage offerings inspired by food featured in the film including popsicles, and Clawhauser’s favourite Big Donuts.

Fashions by Fru Fru, owned by resident fashionista, Fru Fru, is located at the entrance of Mane Street. The shop will offer a large range of merchandise including the Zootopia Cute collection featuring headwear, apparel, accessories, and more.

On September 5, 2023, Shanghai Disney Resort released some first-look images within the as-yet-unnamed Zootopia-themed expansion. The photos highlight the insanely high level of detail present in the land. Click each photo to enlarge!

Zootopia: Hot Pursuit (Attraction)

In”Zootopia: Hot Pursuit,” guests are invited to become rookie police officers alongside Officer Judy Hopps and her partner Nick Wilde. The state-of-the-art attraction will see guests join the cop duo on a hot chase on their way to the Zootopia Day concert, featuring headliner Gazelle.

When you walk into the ZPD for orientation, you’ll be greeted by Officer Clawhauser. Suddenly, an alarm sounds and you’ll be whisked away to an emergency briefing delivered by Chief Bogo where you’ll learn that Gazelle has been kidnapped — on the day of the anticipated concert!

Zootopia: Hot Pursuit will see Judy and Nick glide across the icy terrain of Tundra Town, stalk a fugitive through the bustling streets of Sahara Square, experience a heart-pounding close encounter at Mystic Springs Oasis, and take a thrilling plunge from the towering canopies of the Rainforest District.

The attraction features an innovative trackless ride system, with guests boarding their own Zootopia Police vehicles to help save the day!
