Soaring: Fantastic Flight Opens July 23, 2019, at Tokyo DisneySea

Tokyo Disney Resort new attraction, Soaring: Fantastic Flight, opens at Tokyo DisneySea on Tuesday, July 23, 2019. The latest version of the popular Soarin’ will have content unique to Tokyo and its own backstory which perfectly fits its location in DisneySea’s Mediterranean Harbor.

I expect soft openings to happen, maybe a week before opening (it’s never announced). With these types of soft openings, the attraction may only operate for a limited amount of time per day and number of guests may be limited. It’s best to keep an eye on the wait times board and head there immediately if you notice it’s open.

Soaring: Fantastic Flight

Soaring: Fantastic Flight takes guests on a flight around the world, visiting famous landmarks and areas of natural beauty. Locations will include the Pyramids, Great Wall of China and the Taj Mahal as well as a new location unique to Tokyo Disney Resort.

Soaring: Fantastic Flight will have two theatres and the main ride time will be 5 minutes, with a capacity of 87 people per ride. Guests under 102cm will be unable to ride.

Location and Story (Spoilers!)

Soaring: Fantastic Flight is located in the Fantastic Flight Museum on the Mediterranean Harbor Hill. The new area celebrates the wonders of flight and the life of Camellia Falco, a woman passionate about flying and exploration. Check out the sneak peek inside the Museum in the video below.

Guests will tour the museum and visit a gallery honouring Camellia’s achievements. Here they will encounter Camelia’s spirit and hear about her inventions. From there, guests board Camellia’s flying invention “The Dream Flyer” and through the power of imagination travel into the future and around the world!

This story fits so well with DisneySea’s themes of exploration and invention and we cannot wait to experience it. Also, it now confirmed that Camellia Falco is a member of S.E.A., as seen in an exhibit in Tropical Hideaway at Disneyland Resort. Perfect!

The story also gives the attraction a unique twist which will make it stand out from the other Soarin’ rides in Disneyland Resort, Walt Disney World and Shanghai Disneyland.

Explorer Thoughts

This is a huge launch for Tokyo DisneySea and the ride could prove as popular as Toy Story Mania! Luckily, this will be a FastPass attraction and is included in the “Happy 15” early entry for Disney Hotel guests.

How excited are you for the new Soaring: Fantastic Flight? What do you think of the new backstory and Mediterranean setting?

We’re looking forward to experiencing this attraction, but what REALLY interests me about it, is the % of guests, it will take away from Midway Mania and Tower/Terror, in the opening hours. I’m sure Disney will take notice on “who goes left, and who goes right,” etc. (o:

This looks breathtaking. Chris or Matt, any idea if and how soft openings will occur some weeks before the official opening? We could only visit on july 19th on our next trip (other priorities than Tokyo or Disney 🙂 ), and we’d love to experience it.
