10 Things Coming to Tokyo Disney Resort by 2022
There’s a lot of new experiences coming to Tokyo Disney Resort by fiscal 2022. From new attractions, a popcorn shop, two brand-new hotels, and more. With the Summer Olympics approaching, there’s a quite a lot to look forward to by spring 2020 and beyond!
Let’s take a look at what’s coming to both Tokyo Disneyland & Tokyo DisneySea over the next few years. If you’re planning a trip, this will help you decide when the best time for you to visit is.
When planning your trip to Tokyo Disney Resort, our digital ebook travel guide is an essential tool to make sure you have an unforgettable and stress-free vacation. I’m quite excited to see all these new experiences coming to the Parks and can’t wait for it all finally open!
Soaring: Fantastic Flight (Opened July 23, 2019)
Opening on July 23, 2019, in the Mediterranean Harbor at Tokyo DisneySea is “Soaring: Fantastic Flight.” This version is unique to Japan with original scenes and images. The construction is coming along nicely and I think this will make a great addition to the Park.
I’m hoping that this new attraction helps reduce wait times at some of the major attractions such as Toy Story Mania!, Tower of Terror, and Journey to the Center of the Earth.
New Ticket Gates at Tokyo Disneyland (2020)
New Entrance
If you’ve been to Tokyo Disneyland this year, you’ve noticed the major construction happening at the ticket gates. This had led to congestion at the Park entrance in the morning.
The new redesign park entrance should help with the crowd flow, especially during those peak periods. An increase from 48 to 54 ticket gates, facial recognition for Annual Passport holders, multilingual ticket vending machines, less staffed ticket booths, and flap ticket gates instead of the current turnstiles.

Beauty and the Beast Attraction (April 15, 2020)
As part of the new Fantasyland expansion, the most exciting news is the brand new Beauty and the Beast attraction named “Enchanted Tale of Beauty and the Beast.“ This new trackless ride looks phenomenal based on the video released showing the work being done on the animatronics (seriously watch the video below if you haven’t already).
Themed after the Disney Classic, Beauty and the Beast, this new area also has a new shop (Village Shoppes) and restaurant (La Taverne de Gaston).
New Theater (April 15, 2020)
Another new addition to the Fantasyland expansion is “Fantasyland Forest Theatre.” It’s the first full-scale indoor theatre at Tokyo Disneyland.
This sounds like it’s the replacement for the Showbase theatre in Tomorrowland, where “One Man’s Dream II: The Magic Lives On” is currently performing until the show ends permanently on December 13, 2019.
Baymax Attraction (April 15, 2020)

In spring 2020, a new whip-type attraction themed after Big Hero Six called “The Happy Ride with Baymax” opens in Tomorrowland!
From the sounds of the description, it’s the same type of attractions found at Walt Disney World (Alien Swirling Saucers), Disney California Adventure (Mater’s Junkyard Jamboree), and Shanghai Disneyland (Woody’s Roundup).
Popcorn Shop (April 15, 2020)

Popcorn at Tokyo Disney Resort is serious business. With new flavours and popcorn buckets coming out quite often, it comes as no surprise that a brand new shop is opening! In Tomorrowland, “The Big Pop” offers popcorn in multiple flavours and a variety of popcorn buckets.
Minnie Mouse Greeting Facility (April 15, 2020)

Until now, Minnie Mouse hasn’t had a dedicated meet and greet facility at Tokyo Disneyland. While Mickey has his house in Toontown, Minnie only had greetings at a few locations in the Park. That all changes in spring 2020 when “Minnie’s Style Studio” opens in Toontown.
New Toy Story Hotel (Fiscal 2021)
© Disney
In a recent surprise announcement, a Toy Story-themed hotel is coming to Tokyo Disney Resort in fiscal 2021. The new hotel is a “casual resort stay at a reasonable price.”
From the sounds of it, this is a value-type resort, which Tokyo Disney Resort needs. The current Deluxe hotels are expensive and the only value hotel, Tokyo Disney Celebration Hotel, is a 15-minute bus ride from the Resort.
Location of the new Toy Story Hotel at Tokyo Disney Resort
The Toy Story Hotel is going right beside the Hilton Tokyo Bay, which is the former site of the Tokyo Bay NK Hall.
Tokyo DisneySea Expansion “Fantasy Springs” (Fiscal 2022)
In fiscal 2022, we’ll see the largest expansion ever for Tokyo DisneySea come to life named “Fantasy Springs“. This includes a brand new port with three new areas inside themed to:
- Tangled (one attraction and restaurant)
- Peter Pan (two attractions and one restaurant)
- Frozen (one attraction and restaurant)
- One new luxurious hotel (see below)

Tokyo DisneySea already has one hotel right inside the park, Hotel MiraCosta. As part of the expansion another hotel, described as the “finest accommodations” at Tokyo Disney Resort, is opening in Tokyo DisneySea.
It’ll have a mix of park-facing and non-park facing rooms, deluxe and luxury type rooms, two restaurants, a lounge, and a gift shop.
Explorer Thoughts?
What do you think of all the new and exciting additions coming to Tokyo Disney Resort? I’m most excited — like most Explorers — for the Beauty and the Beast attraction. After watching the video above for the 10th time, I still get goosebumps seeing Belle move no seamlessly.
As of this writing, there are no known official openings dates for everything listed below and can change. Keep an eye on our website for the latest information once it becomes available. Oriental Land Company’s fiscal years run from April 1 through March 31.

Love all of this! Most excited about the Big Pop shop (I’m obsessed with the strawberry, milk chocolate, and honey popcorns) and the DisneySea hotel—it looks beautiful. Thanks so much for sharing this! So excited to see these come to life 🙂
Maybe the new hotel will be called Grand Japanian
I might go to Tokyo last week of April 2020. When you say Spring 2020 the Beauty and the Beast etc will open, do you think they aim to have it open before Golden Week or after? I am scared of the crowds already, but thought I might be good right before Golden Week. But if all the new things will be open before, I am sure the crowds will be huge as soon as they open.
