Tokyo Disneyland Closure Extended Due to Coronavirus

UPDATED: June 23, 2020

Tokyo Disneyland & Tokyo DisneySea are reopening on July 1, 2020.

In response to the coronavirus outbreak, Tokyo Disney Resort has announced on June 1 that the closures of Tokyo Disneyland and Tokyo DisneySea have been extended, again. This comes after the reopening of their shopping complex, Ikspiari, on the same day. That means we don’t know when Tokyo Disneyland or Tokyo DisneySea are reopening.

Japan has extended its state of emergency until May 31, 2020. We’d expect a new announcement in June.

The Disney Hotels have also temporarily closed on April 1. This also includes all the Tokyo Disney Resort Hotels (Tokyo Disneyland Hotel, Disney Ambassador Hotel, Tokyo Disney Celebration Hotel, and Tokyo DisneySea Hotel MiraCosta).

The grand opening of Tokyo Disneyland’s expansion has been delayed further. OLC says they’ll determine an opening date when both Parks are open.

Full details regarding the extension are on the official Tokyo Disney Resort website.

Originally opening on April 15, 2020, the huge expansion includes the new Beauty and the Beast attraction, Baymax ride, Minnie’s Style Studio and Fantasyland Forest Theatre.

Exact dates for the parks’ reopening and the opening of the new attractions are not confirmed.

Unfortunately, the early April reopening means that guests will be unable to see the final weeks of the Very Very Minnie event or the final ever performance of Fantasmic!, which were both scheduled for March.
