The iconic Disney Resort Line celebrates its 20th anniversary on July 27, 2021! If you’ve been to Tokyo Disney Resort, there’s a good chance you’ve been aboard this pristine monorail.
Last week, Tokyo Disney Resort released a limited-edition one-day monorail pass (that’s now sold out). On July 27, a limited-time Anniversary Exhibition opened inside the Resort Gateway Station, celebrating 20 years of the Disney Resort Line.
I woke up at the crack of dawn, well more like 8 AM, and went to see this exhibit to share with all of you! It’s hard to say how long this exhibit is on, but I expect a few weeks.
Tokyo Disney Resort Line 20th Anniversary Exhibition
Right beside the escalators is this colourful exhibit that showcases the history of the wonderful Disney Resort Line!
On the left is a brief explanation of the monorail and the stations it has. I didn’t come across any English in the explanations.
Right in the middle of the exhibit is a large model of the new Type-C monorail. This monorail type came out last year and has a lot more room than the older models (which are still running, by the way).
My favourite part is in the back, where they have different monorail handles they’ve used over the years! Specifically ones for the major anniversaries of the Resort. These themed handles never fail to make me smile.
In addition to the handles were different day passes with specific anniversary designs on them. I’m particular to the 30th-anniversary design since that’s the time that I made my move to Japan. I still have that day pass in my collection!
New Cast Member Monorail Costumes
Another surprise was Cast Members have brand new costumes for the monorail! There are two different costumes with a fun monorail design. The exhibit has one on display for you to take photos of.
New Mickey Announcements Aboard Monorail
Lastly, Mickey announcements are now aboard the monorail! While he’s not announcing the next stops, he’s simply telling you things like, “See you soon!” But in Japanese. Here’s a quick video of it below.
I had no idea this exhibit was coming along with the new costumes and the new Mickey announcements. That made for a nice surprise this morning. Let’s hope we continue to see more surprises as part of the Tokyo DisneySea 20th anniversary too!
Here’s a video that Tokyo Disney Resort released to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the monorail.
More Things to Do in Tokyo
My recommendations for things to do in and around Tokyo! Plan a day at the Hello Kitty theme park, Sanrio Puroland, and an afternoon at the popular TeamLab Planets TOKYO. Take a tour around Tokyo with the convenient hop-on and-off bus. Spend a rainy afternoon inside Japan’s largest indoor theme park, Tokyo Joyoplis, near Tokyo Disney!
