As part of the Oriental Land Company’s commitment to reducing its impact on the environment, Tokyo Disney Resort has released a line of environmentally friendly products made using recycled materials collected at the parks as part of its “Circulating Smiles” collection.
The recycling initiative has resulted in an interesting collection of environmentally conscious goods, made with plastic PET bottles, organic cotton, used coffee grounds and even cast member costumes! The collection features soft and natural colours and features a classic Mickey Mouse design.
The Circulating Smiles is available for purchase now on the Tokyo Disney Resort official app.
Plastic Bottles
To create items from plastic PET bottles, the park collects and compresses plastic bottles from trash cans at the park, and crushes them into fine flakes, which are then turned into thread used for products.
Coffee Grounds
The fabric for these items are coloured with a dye extracted from coffee grounds, which is provided at the park’s restaurants and cafes. The items feature a fun design inspired by park drinks.
Cast Costumes
Tokyo Disney Resort has created a sturdy rucksack from the costumes worn by the cast of the park, which is recycled and used as part of the raw material. The design incorporates cast member name tags.
