Starting April 1, 2023, Tokyo Disney Resort will be implementing changes to its “Disney Look” policy, which outlines appearance guidelines to foster a comfortable work environment for all its cast members.
To support a comfortable work environment for all employees, the Oriental Land Company will be updating the “Disney Look” policy to remove gender-specific language. This means that the hairstyles, makeup, and other appearance requirements will be standardized for all cast members, irrespective of gender, while still meeting the high appearance standards required for cast members.
The company plans to phase in a new unisex costume policy, enabling cast members to choose their preferred costume, rather than assigning them one based on their gender. The costumes will continue to reflect the thematic and functional requirements of each park.
The above graphic shows the current gendered costume options on top, while the bottom line reflects some of the options available and variations that will be made available to cast members in the future.
The changes are part of Oriental Land Group’s efforts to sustainably contribute to society and create long-term growth by promoting “happiness” as the company’s core value. These changes to the “Disney Look” policy are a step towards achieving that goal.
