Tokyo Disneyland Reveals Names for New Space Mountain and Wreck-It Ralph Attractions

Tokyo Disneyland has revealed the names and new details for the major transformation coming to Tomorrowland, including its new Space Mountain attraction and the first-ever Disney theme park attraction based on Wreck-It Ralph.

The Tomorrowland transformation represents a ¥100 billion investment and will introduce two new attractions, along with new shops, food and beverage locations and a redesigned plaza at the heart of the land. The new attractions and facilities will breathe fresh life into Tokyo Disneyland’s Tomorrowland, which has seen only minor updates over the decades.

New Wreck-It Ralph Attraction Coming to Tomorrowland

Scheduled to open in Spring 2027, the new Wreck-It Ralph-themed attraction will be called Sugar Rush: Sweet Rescue. The indoor attraction will take guests into the colourful world of Sugar Rush, the candy-themed racing game featured in the Disney film. This will be the first attraction based on Wreck-It Ralph at a Disney theme park anywhere in the world.

Inside the attraction, guests will join Ralph and Vanellope as they attempt to save Sugar Rush from the “Sugar Bugs”, glitches created by King Candy that are threatening to destroy the game. The interactive experience will use new technology being introduced for the first time at Tokyo Disney Resort, allowing guests to actively participate in the story as they work to restore the Sugar Bugs to their original delicious candy forms.

Tokyo Disney Resort has previously released the above concept art of the ride experience, featuring guests aboard omnimover ride vehicles equipped with laser guns, zapping away Sugar Bugs. The new attraction replaced Buzz Lightyear’s Astro Blasters, which closed in October 2024.

A new merchandise shop called Pixel Prism will open next to Sugar Rush: Sweet Rescue. The shop will sell a range of merchandise, including items inspired by the new attraction and its characters. A new popcorn stand, Popping Station, will also open near Sugar Rush: Sweet Rescue, overlooking Tomorrowland Plaza, replacing the former Popping Pod popcorn wagon, which closed in November 2024.

New Space Mountain Revealed

The new version of Space Mountain has been named Space Mountain Earthrise and is scheduled to open in 2027. The attraction replaces Tokyo Disneyland’s original Space Mountain, which debuted with the park in 1983. Rebuilt from the ground up, the attraction features an all-new show building and ride system, and will introduce a new space-themed story, dynamic effects, and an immersive onboard experience featuring onboard audio – a first at Tokyo Disney Resort.

The journey will begin with guests being launched from Earth into space before travelling through the universe and encountering a variety of cosmic phenomena represented through light and sound effects. The name “Earthrise” refers to the sight of Earth appearing above the horizon of the Moon when viewed from space.

Tomorrowland Plaza

At the centre of the redesigned Tomorrowland will be Tomorrowland Plaza, a new open space intended to connect the past and future of the land. The plaza will focus on the relationship between humanity and nature, with monuments inspired by natural elements including fire, water, earth and wood.

The sun, moon and other celestial bodies will also feature in the design. After dark, light and sound effects will transform Tomorrowland Plaza into an immersive environment filled with what Tokyo Disney Resort describes as a sense of hope, dreams and wonder.

A new counter-service food and beverage location called Element Express will open at Tomorrowland Plaza. The shop will serve snacks and drinks designed for guests to enjoy while relaxing in the new plaza.
