Tokyo Disneyland’s opening day Space Mountain attraction is scheduled to permanently close on the 1st of August this year, with a brand new reimagined Space Mountain and surrounding Tomorrowland Square set to debut in 2027. The new Space Mountain will remain a roller coaster but rebuilt (at a cost of 56 billion yen) with heightened thrills and modern state-of-the art effects.
We recently hopped aboard the Tokyo Disney Resort Resort Liner to check out how construction is coming along on at the Space Mountain construction site. As you can see in the photos below, construction on the main structure is coming along well, leading up to it’s 2027 opening.
The new Space Mountain attraction building is located behind the existing structure, which will eventually be demolished and transformed into the re-imagined Tomorrowland Square. The current Space Mountain is set to close permanently after July 31, 2024. Prior to its closing date, guests can enjoy one last ride on the opening day attraction, and purchase commemorative merchandise.
