Tokyo Disneyland’s opening day Space Mountain attraction permanently closed on in August of 2024 to make way for a brand-new version of Space Mountain. The new attraction, set to debut in 2027 at a cost of 56 billion yen, will see the classic Disney indoor coaster attraction be reimagined with heightened thrills and modern immersive state-of-the art effects.
We recently visited Tokyo Disneyland and took a ride on the Tokyo Disney Resort Resort Liner to get a closer look at the ongoing work at the Space Mountain construction site. As shown in the photos below, progress on the main structure is moving along smoothly ahead of its scheduled 2027 opening.
From inside Tokyo Disneyland, it’s hard to miss the massive Space Mountain construction site. Guests are treated to clear views of the work underway on the new attraction. When compared with the concept art, you can already see the sleek, futuristic roofline starting to take shape. While it may be a temporary eyesore for some, watching the structure come together is undeniably fascinating.
Heading out of the park, the Tokyo Disney Resort Resort Liner provides a great look behind the scenes look at the construction of the new Space Mountain attraction – it’s hard to hide construction this big!
There are many cranes and heavy construction equipment on site – things are moving along quickly!
Eagle-eyed guests passing by on the monorail can even catch a glimpse of the new coaster’s track peeking out from the open side of the attraction’s show building.
Space Mountain isn’t the only Tomorrowland attraction being replaced with Buzz Lightyear’s Astro Blasters closing last year to be transformed into an attraction based on the Wreck-It Ralph film franchise. The new Sugar Rush attraction is set to open in Tomorrowland during fiscal year 2026 or later.
