Tokyo Disneyland’s original Space Mountain, which opened with the park in 1983, closed permanently in August 2024 to make way for an all-new version of the beloved indoor coaster. Scheduled to open in 2027, the reimagined Space Mountain will feature heightened thrills, cutting-edge effects, and an entirely new story at a cost of 56 billion yen.
The project forms part of a broader revitalisation of Tomorrowland, which also includes a new Wreck-It Ralph attraction replacing Buzz Lightyear’s Astro Blasters and a spacious new plaza in front of Space Mountain featuring futuristic sculptures and landscaping.
During a recent visit to Tokyo Disneyland, we caught a glimpse of the ongoing construction. The site is rapidly taking shape, with the main structure progressing smoothly ahead of the 2027 debut.
From within Tokyo Disneyland, it’s impossible to miss the massive construction site for the new Space Mountain. Guests can get a clear look at the ongoing work, and when compared to the concept art, the sleek, futuristic roofline is already starting to take form.
The new Space Mountain’s sleek, curved design offers a striking contrast to its predecessor. With its bold lines and bright white finish, it feels distinctly modern compared to the previous version, which followed Disneyland’s classic design and gradually developed a yellow hue over the years.
