Your Guide to Universal Studios Japan’s Neon Summer Matsuri Nights 2026

Universal Studios Japan is going all-in on summer nights for 2026, introducing an entirely new event, “Universal Summer Matsuri Night ~Neon Glow Up~,” as part of its 25th anniversary celebrations.

The nighttime offering transforms the park into a neon-lit festival inspired by traditional Japanese matsuri. Once the sun sets, the atmosphere shifts with music, street entertainment, glowing food, and plenty of opportunities to cool down during the hot Japanese summer.

Universal Studios Japan’s summer event takes place from July 1 to August 26, 2026, with festivities running from 6:30 pm to 9:00 pm on most nights alongside extended park hours.

NO LIMIT! Grow Up Oh! Matsuri

The main event takes over Gramercy Park with a high-energy dance show featuring popular park characters dressed in summer yukata. Expect a mix of familiar songs and original music produced by DJ tofubeats, along with heavy use of water and foam effects. Guests near the stage will get completely drenched as the show builds into a full crowd dance party.

The show is scheduled twice daily, although times may vary. Guests wishing to enhance their experience can purchase the NO LIMIT! Grow Up Oh! Matsuri Special Viewing Area Admission Ticket (¥1,700), guaranteeing a soaking good time – you WILL get wet!

Minions BOO-YA Block Party

Held at Mel’s Stage, Minions BOO-YA Block Party leans into a more playful tone, with DJ Stuart spinning 80s electro-pop tracks. The Minions take centre stage here, interacting closely with guests and leading the chaotic “Boo-Ya Dance.” It’s energetic, a bit silly, and very Minions coded! Presented twice nightly.

Summer Street Performances

Beyond the main shows, the event spreads across the park as multiple street shows pop up as part of the nighttime festival. Guests can enjoy energetic performances featuring BMX tricks, acrobatics, and interactive dance elements. Guests are encouraged to clap along, dance, and take photos. Most performances take place 3 times a day – be sure to check the show schedule for details .

Hello! Neon Summer Greetings

In the Hollywood area (Green Street), Hello Kitty and Daniel appear in colourful summer yukata for the limited-time Hello! Neon Summer Greetings. This is a more relaxed offering compared to the larger shows, focused on character interactions and photo opportunities with a bright neon summer backdrop.

Summer Night Street Action

Also in the Hollywood area (Stage 22 Street), Summer Night Street Action features Ernie and Bert alongside high-energy acts including Double Dutch and BMX. The neon lighting adds to the atmosphere, especially after dark, with fast-paced routines designed to grab attention as you pass through.

Summer Beat Splash

Located near Universal Market, Summer Beat Splash combines music and water effects inspired by festivals from around the world. Located near Universal Market, this show combines music and water effects inspired by festivals from around the world.

Summer Night Bubble Fantasy

In the Hollywood Area, guests will find Summer Night Bubble Fantasy – a whimsical dance performance by a group of six girl dancers, using soap bubbles and colorful lights.

Summer Glow Moment

On select nights, the lagoon hosts a short fireworks finale set to music. This Summer Glow Moment runs for a few minutes just before park closing and acts as a final highlight to wrap up the evening. Availability varies, so checking the official schedule ahead of time is recommended.

Limited-Time Food and Games

Universal Market becomes the heart of the night festival, transforming into a neon street-style food hub filled with glowing drinks, playful carnival snacks, and festival-inspired treats that are made for exploring after dark.

Classic matsuri favourites are reimagined with a USJ twist, from eye-catching drinks served in illuminated cups to indulgent churro-style sweets designed for easy snacking between shows.
