Universal Studios Japan Halloween Horror Nights 2022


Universal Studios Japan is set to get spooky with NO LIMIT! Halloween sees the return of Halloween Horror Night with a full lineup for the first time in 3 years. The popular Halloween event features a spooky selection of horror mazes, atmosphere entertainment, family-friendly entertainment, and character greetings.

NO LIMIT! Halloween will be offered from September 8 (Thursday) through November 6 (Friday), 2022, with Halloween Horror Nights kicking off a day later on September 9th (Friday).

While the attractions and entertainment are all included with the price of admission, several attractions require either an Express Pass or a free numbered ticket, which are available when the park opens. A Halloween Horror Night Express Pass will be available from July 25, 2022.

Immersive Horror Mazes

Universal Monsters: Legend of Fear

This year will see the Japanese debut of the popular Universal Monsters: Legend of Fear from Universal Orlando Resort. This horror-themed maze challenges guests to escape a dark graveyard full of classic Universal horror icons including Werewolves, Frankenstein, and Dracula. A numbered ticket is required in advance for this experience.

Resident Evil – Biohazard: The Extreme

Resident Evil – Biohazard: The Extreme invites guests to experience the extreme horror of the Resident Evil franchise. The horror has been amped up for 2022, with this year’s maze featuring two routes to choose from and even more attacking creatures. An Express Pass or numbered ticket is required to experience this attraction.

Cult of Chucky: Chucky’s Hospital Ward of Madness

Cult of Chucky: Chucky’s Hospital Ward of Madness sees the return of one of the park’s longest-running and most popular horror mazes. Enter a hospital that has been terrorized by the evil Chucky doll, and try to make it out alive!

Sherlock Holmes: Cursed Rose Sword 

SHERLOCK HOLMES production, in partnership with the Conan Doyle Estate Ltd

At Sherlock Holmes: Cursed Rose Sword, you’ve been invited to a cursed movie premier, which turns out to be the scene of a horrifying murder! This horror theatre show is taking over the Universal Monster Live Rock n’ Roll show. A numbered ticket is required in advance for this experience.

Street Zombies

Zombies will take over the streets of Universal Studios Japan, led by the eerie icon Hamikuma. In addition to having the most types of zombies in the history of the park, this year will feature projection mapping which will further immerse guests into the craziness.

Street Zombies will appear nightly from 18:00 through to park close. Check out the map below to see which areas of the park will be overrun by zombies!

Zombie de Dance

The super popular “Ratata Dance” returns this Halloween this year for the final time. Zombie de Dance features dancing decaying zombies and an eerie circus juggling show led by Hamikuma. Ratata Dance is set to dominate the park with 6 stage shows and brand new horrors.

Family Friendly Halloween Offerings

It’s not all spooks and scares during Halloween at Universal, with plenty on offer for the whole family, including a dance party, entertainment and character greetings for all to enjoy.

Minion Monsters Greeting

My Melody & Kuromi’s Happy Halloween Greetings

My Melody & Kuromi are set to make their debut at Universal Studios Japan this Halloween! Guests can meet and take photos with the duo who will be dressed in their cute witch costumes for the occasion.

Trick or Treating

Elementary school students and younger can go up to crew members wearing a pumpkin pouch and “trick or treat” their way to some candy! Trick or treating is available park-wide (excluding The Wizarding World of Harry Potter and Super Nintendo World from 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM.

I use Google Flights & Momodo to find affordable flights. Another great way is to sign up for Scott’s Cheap Flights to get notifications of cheap fares, which happens often in Japan. You’ll sometimes stumble on cheap flights to Kansai International Airport.

Getting around Japan by the world-renowned bullet train, known as the Shinkansen, is incredibly fast, reliable, and affordable for visitors. You can travel from Tokyo to Osaka in just over 2 hours. Get the JR Rail Pass to save a ton of money on the bullet train for your trip.

Book Your Hotel

Universal Studios Japan has affordable accommodations that are steps away from the park and have easy access to Osaka. I recommend checking prices through Booking.com followed by the hotels directly. Sometimes you’re able to score some incredible deals. Here’s a short list of hotels at Universal Studios Japan I recommend.

  • The Park Front Hotel at Universal Studios Japan – You’re directly in front of the Park gates and have instant access to Universal CityWalk Osaka. The rooms are gorgeous, with restaurants and even a Lawson (Japanese convenience store).
  • The Singulari HOTEL & SKYSPA – Attached to the train station is a fantastic hotel for those who want a comfortable, clean, and stylish place to sleep. After a long day at Universal Studios Japan, the rooftop sento (public bath) is excellent for unwinding and relaxing.
  • Hotel Universal Port – This is an excellent hotel for the Minion fan in your family, only a 5-minute walk from Universal Studios Japan. It also boasts the largest breakfast buffet in Japan, a must during your visit.

Stay Connected

Universal Studios Japan only offers free Wi-Fi at the entrance to the Park. That’s not enough to stay connected and share your day with everyone back home to give them FOMO on Instagram. Here’s how you can stay connected while travelling in Japan.

  • Pocket Wi-Fi – If you’re travelling with a group or have multiple devices, this is your best and most affordable way to stay connected to the internet. Pick up and drop off at the airport. Easy.
  • Japan SIM Card – If you have an unlocked phone and need a Japanese phone number, this is the best and easiest way.

Get Yourself Travel Insurance

While travelling aboard, having travel insurance protects you against injury, cancellations, illness, and other things you can never predict. Whenever I travel, I always budget for travel insurance to protect myself. I’ve used it, and I’m so glad I had it. My recommended companies are SafteyWing and  World Nomads for travel insurance.
