As part of Disney’s 100th anniversary, it has been revealed that Hong Kong Disneyland will receive a brand new statue of the original storyteller, Walt Disney and Mickey Mouse.
Located behind the Castle of Magical Dreams near Cinderella Carouse, the statue features Walt and Mickey sitting on a park bench, referencing the moment when Walt Disney first conceived Disneyland while watching his two daughters on the Merry-Go-Round at Griffith Park.
The statue was announced earlier this week at the D23 Expo, where Disney Parks Chairman Josh D’Amaro shared concept art of the new statue coming to Hong Kong Disneyland.
“This tribute to the famous moment as Walt watched his children on the merry-go-round when that one little spark that eventually led to him to create the thing we all love – Disneyland,” D’Amaro said. “ Now, here, he sits on a bench, but this time behind the Castle of Magical Dreams in Hong Kong.”
The new statue is one of many Walt Disney statues found at Disney parks around the globe, including “Partners” found at most castle parks, “Storytellers” at Disney California Adventure and the new “Walt the Dreamer” statue coming to EPCOT at Walt Disney World.
