Sweet Duffy is a yearly event which happens at Tokyo DisneySea to fill the gap between Christmas and spring. Merchandise, Duffy costumes, decorations, and sweets span from the Mediterranean Harbour to the American Waterfront. For fans of Duffy the Disney Bear, this is the event of the year. Where DisneySea dedicates (more than usual) an event just for Duffy, ShellieMay, and now Gelatoni. This past week, I had the chance to visit the park and experience first hand what pure indulgence in everything Duffy was like.
If you have followed our website for a while, you may know that I am a Duffy fan. I buy his costumes and have adopted Gelatoni as my own. I am not afraid to admit that I have given my fair share of money to OLC for their creation.

Before getting to Tokyo DisneySea if you take the monorail, there is a gigantic Duffy Bear! The picture below shows how huge it is and take note of the normal sized Duffy Bears for scale.
Mediterranean Harbour is decorated with subtle but notable decorations. Umbrellas above the tables at Mamma Biscotti’s Bakery and Gondolier Snacks have cute patterns on them. In front of the harbour is a cute “centerpiece” display with Duffy and Gelatoni on it, perfect for photo ops. Over in the American Waterfront, specifically the New York Deli Restaurant (which is highly recommended), McDuck’s Department Store and American Waterfront Park are more decorations. The photos speak for themselves.
At the New York Deli is a special table setup for guests to take photos of their Duffy Bears. Perfect if you wish to get that adorable photo. This spot has Cast Members who take your photo as well. McDuck’s has window decorations for both the 10th Anniversary and Sweet Duffy. What more could you ask for? At one point a guest setup all her Duffy, ShellieMay, and Gelatoni plush at a photo-op place in the American Waterfront. At first I thought it was part of the display, but quickly realised that they all belonged to one person. She was kind enough to allow us to take photos. Pretty impressive!
An event at Tokyo Disney Resort is never complete without brand new merchandise. Sweet Duffy is no different. Aside from the new costumes, Sweet Duffy goods are heavily focused on sweets and baking. Everything from pancake frying pans to moulds to cupcake liners. While this is not my thing, I can appreciate how awesome this is for some. A Duffy shaped pancake topped with whipped cream and strawberries sounds good right about now. For full photos you can visit dlove.jp (Japanese Only).
Ended up splurging and bought myself the Gelatoni character strap with this red leather-ish jacket. I have made an effort to buy every one that has come out since 2014. Have to change him out on my bag, can’t have last seasons character strap on!
Over at Cape Cod Cook-Off you can buy a Duffy sleeve for your beverage. For ¥510 (plus your cost of a drink) you can have your very own. Yes, it is that cute and you should buy it the next chance you get. If you cannot see the video below, you can watch it on YouTube.
Now for my favourite part of any trip, all the gorging! Sweet Duffy lives up to its name and offers a variety of sweets to indulge in. I had the hot chocolate this time around. Which was the same as last year, but still delicious! You get hot chocolate with raspberry sauce at the bottom, which gives it a kick at the end. Paired with a hard sweet bread to dip. This is definitely one of my favourites. Also a perfect excuse to have a hot beverage that doubles as a dessert.

More sweets are available, which we have listed for you! After having my hot chocolate I decided to save the delicious looking hazelnut cake for next time.
While not part of Sweet Duffy, this deserves a mention. The new limited time show “Come Join Your Friends” features Gelatoni, which is the first time this character has made an appearance in the parks! If you cannot see the video below, you can watch it on YouTube.
While this event is purely fanfare, it is great to see something happening at the park between major events. Even if it is simply decorations, merchandise, and food. OLC could easily not bother doing anything at all, but they know their audience. If you’re a fan of Duffy then this event is for you. If you are not a fan, you are better off skipping it and heading straight for the attractions or whatever you have planned for the day! Or head on over to Disneyland for Anna and Elsa’s Frozen Fantasy.
I give this event 3 acorns out of 5.
