This year marks the 10th anniversary of “Universal Cool Japan, which has become a popular seasonal event that showcases thrilling collaborations with top Japanese entertainment brands. This year-long celebration offers guests the chance to immerse themselves in the exciting worlds of Keigo Higashino’s “Masquerade” series and the popular Detective Conan franchise.

Peril at the Masquerade
Kicking off the anniversary offerings, Universal Studios Japan will introduce an exciting new collaboration with one of Japan’s most celebrated mystery writers, Keigo Higashino. Based on the famous “Masquerade” series, Peril at the Masquerade will plunge guests into an interactive mystery where they will work to solve a high-stakes crime and discover the truth behind the mask.
In addition to mystery-solving, guests will be treated to a delectable banquet themed to the series.
The immersive attraction will be available from January 24 to June 30, 2025. A special ticket is required for entry to Peril at the Masquerade, with tickets priced at ¥8,500. For detailed ticketing information and performance dates, please visit the official Universal Studios Japan website.
Detective Conan World
The Cool Japan lineup also features an array of exciting experiences themed to the popular Detective Conan franchise, including a thrilling Detective Conan escape-room-style attraction, an audio roller coaster overlay and a limited-time immersive dining experience. Detective Conan World will be offered from January 31 to June 30, 2025.
Detective Conan: The Escape – Prologue of the Afterimage
The limited-time walk-through mystery adventure will take guests into an original prequel story tied to the upcoming film Detective Conan: Flashback of the One-Eyed, scheduled for release on April 18, 2025. Guests will team up with Conan Edogawa, the Junior Detective League, and other beloved characters to gather clues, solve puzzles, and work together to defuse a bomb.
Access to the attraction is not included in park admission – a separate ticket will be required. Tickets for admission start at ¥3,980, available through the official website.
Detective Conan x Story Ride: The Target’s Thrill Coaster
During the campaign Hollywood Dream – The Ride will feature an exclusive story version where guests will join Conan and Heiji Hattori on a mission to save the day when a bomb is discovered onboard. The story ride also incorporates a subplot featuring Heiji and Kazuha’s evolving relationship.
Please note Hollywood Dream – The Ride will be closed for maintenance February 5–24, 2025.
Detective Conan Mystery Restaurant
Starting January 31st, Lombard’s Landing will be transformed into the Detective Conan Mystery Restaurant. The unique dining experience will blend French cuisine with an engaging mystery-solving story. Guests will join Kogoro Mouri and Toru Amuro to crack the case surrounding stolen jewels. Highlights include themed drinks with collectible coasters and special desserts.
Detective Conan Mystery Restaurant will be available for pre-sale exclusively to Universal Prime Annual Pass Grand Royal members, through a lottery, and general sale. The immersive dining experience is priced at ¥7,000 and adults and ¥2,600 for children. Detective Conan 4-D Live Show: Jewel Under the Starry Sky
While not part of the Cool Japan event, your Detective Conan journey isn’t complete without experiencing the 4-D Live Show: Jewel in the Starry Sky. The attraction at the Manhattan Theater immerses you in a thrilling 30-minute adventure, featuring live performers, breathtaking 3-D visuals on a 45-meter-wide screen, and high-tech effects like lighting, water sprays, and smoke.
The Apothecary Diaries
This year will see the addition of a limited-time mystery solving attraction, The Apothecary Diaries Mystery Walk: A Dose of Deception inspired by the hit anime series. As participants explore different areas of the park, they’ll gather clues and solve puzzles. The immersive The Apothecary Diaries experience will run for a limited time from July 1, 2025 to January 4, 2026.
SPY×FAMILY Collaboration
The new limited-time overlay of Space Fantasy the Ride, SPY×FAMILY XR Ride, promises an action-packed journey where guests will ride through a super-realistic world of espionage alongside the Forger family. With a dynamic 360-degree ride experience, riders will face thrilling challenges as they team up with Lloyd, Yoru, Anya, and Bond to complete a high-stakes mission. The limited-time overlay will be offered from July 1, 2025 to January 4, 2026.
Food and Merchandise
During Detective Conan World, the terrace in front of Lombard’s Landing will offer a Track down the culprit! Spicy Tomato Bread Bowl Beef Stew and the Goooooooooo! Conan’s Passion & Lemon Drink, available both hot and iced.
Additionally, guests can purchase a cute headband with Conan and the gang, and a Detective Conan T-shirt featuring park-exclusive artwork of Conan, Kogoro, and members of the Nagano Prefectural Police.

Getting around Japan by the world-renowned bullet train, known as the Shinkansen, is incredibly fast, reliable, and affordable for visitors. You can travel from Tokyo to Osaka in just over 2 hours. Get the JR Rail Pass to save a ton of money on the bullet train for your trip.
Book Your Hotel
Universal Studios Japan has affordable accommodations that are steps away from the park and have easy access to Osaka. I recommend checking prices through Booking.com followed by the hotels directly. Sometimes, you’re able to score some incredible deals. Here’s a short list of hotels at Universal Studios Japan I recommend.
- The Park Front Hotel at Universal Studios Japan – You’re directly in front of the Park gates and have instant access to Universal CityWalk Osaka. The rooms are gorgeous, with restaurants and even a Lawson (Japanese convenience store).
- The Singulari HOTEL & SKYSPA – Attached to the train station is a fantastic hotel for those who want a comfortable, clean, and stylish place to sleep. After a long day at Universal Studios Japan, the rooftop sento (public bath) is excellent for unwinding and relaxing.

Universal Studios Japan only offers free Wi-Fi at the park’s entrance. That’s not enough to stay connected and share your day with everyone back home on Instagram to give them FOMO. Here’s how you can stay connected while travelling in Japan.
