Disney Store Japan Pride 2021 Collection Merchandise

To celebrate Pride 2021, the Disney Stores in Japan are offering “The Walt Disney Company’s Pride Collection.” A fun line of merchandise featuring Mickey and Minnie in rainbow colours! These items came out earlier this month and should be available for the next while.

This is the first line of merchandise, that I’ve seen, offered in Japan at the Disney Stores that specifically mention Pride and donations to organizations that support LGBTQ+ communities. This is a step in the right direction for showing support and raising awareness for the LGBTQ+ community within Japan, where same-sex marriage is not legal. As a member of the LGBTQ+ community, these are issues that are near and dear to me.

“In commemoration of Pride Month 2021 and ‘The Walt Disney Company’s Pride Collection,’ Disney is making donations to organizations around the world to support the LGBTQ+ community as an ongoing effort.”

The Walt Disney Company donates to LGBTQ+ communities around the world and is donating to “Nijiiro Diversity” (認定NPO法人虹色ダイバーシティ), which is a nonprofit organization (NPO) that is helping fight for the rights of the LGBTQ+ community within Japan. The word “Nijiiro” means “rainbow” in Japanese ?!

If you’d like to donate to Nijiiro Diversity, you can do it directly through their website! This is not a sponsored post.

OK, let’s get to the merchandise shall we?

Here’s a look at the merchandise close up. What’s not pictured is the Minnie Mouse plush, as it was out by the time I got there. There’s also a rainbow key, that also wasn’t available in the store.

You can see more photos directly on the Disney Store Japan website. Note that Disney Store Japan doesn’t ship internationally. See our merchandise page for recommendations on how to buy these items from outside Japan.

More Things to Do in Tokyo

My recommendations for things to do in and around Tokyo! Plan a day at the Hello Kitty theme park, Sanrio Puroland, and an afternoon at the popular TeamLab Planets TOKYO. Take a tour around Tokyo with the convenient hop-on and-off bus. Spend a rainy afternoon inside Japan’s largest indoor theme park, Tokyo Joyoplis, near Tokyo Disney!

It looks like the new 5th key of Inclusion has made it to Japan! Unfortunately, while it is nice, none of that merchandise really screams “buy me” to me. This is one of the few times that the US merchandise is actually better than what is available there. Ironically, the shirts we wear in June that have gotten the most comments are the “Happy as a rainbow” t-shirts that we purchased in Tokyo a few years ago. I was hoping to see more items like that for Pride.

But it’s a huge step forward!
