My first visit to Tokyo Disney Resort was on a Saturday in June 2010. The crowds were heavy, the humidity was less than ideal, and we didn’t get to ride much. My friends and I still had a memorable time, but if I had known when to visit Tokyo Disneyland, I’d have made a better decision.

The Golden Rules

To make things easier and reduce stress, I’ve devised “Golden Rules” for deciding when to visit. Whenever you find yourself questioning your decision, come back to these rules. I want to stress that there is no absolute best time to visit Tokyo Disneyland and Tokyo DisneySea. You’ll have to decide if you want perfect weather or low crowds (you won’t always get both).
The best advice is to choose what works with your budget, time, and travel style.
Here are the Golden Rules
- Avoid weekends and national holidays.
- The best days to visit are usually Tuesday through Friday (lower crowds).
- Mondays are generally busier weekdays.
- To have a head start, arrive 1-2 hours before the park opens.
- Check attraction closures.
Major public holidays are usually the busiest times of the year, and off-peak or shoulder seasons tend to save your sanity. But because the Japanese public holidays calendar differs significantly from North America (and even Europe), a slow season at other parks could be hectic at the Tokyo Disney Resort.
You have seen videos of the long lines to get into Tokyo Disneyland on social media. While the line is long, this is for security, which is a bottleneck. It moves quickly, so don’t panic.
Remember that crowds have been heavier since 2023, and I expect it to continue through 2026. Variable pricing for park tickets has pushed more people to visit on weekdays, which generally have cheaper tickets than on weekends.
Buy your Park tickets for Tokyo Disneyland in advance.
What is the best time to go to Tokyo Disneyland?

My favourite time to visit Tokyo Disneyland is mid-January, right after the New Year’s crowd has left. The weather is chilly yet fresh, and the crowds are light. It’s a perfect time to enjoy the attractions with minimal wait.
Sitting outside on the S.S. Columbia with a glass of hot wine and watching the sunset gives me life.
While somewhat controversial, I adore the summertime at the Parks. I’d visit in July before the summer vacation crowds descend and soak in the Parks’ water shows. I’d rather be outside and have water dumped on me than sit at home in an air-conditioned building. That sounds odd, but I adore it.
Mid-October into November is another fantastic time to visit. If you time it right, you’ll experience Halloween and Christmas on the same trip. Both of those seasonal events are among the best at the Parks, and they’re the best use of your vacation time.
Best Time to Visit Tokyo Disneyland in 2026

Tourism is back in full swing in Japan, and with that, it brings higher crowds compared to previous years. In October 2023, over 2.5 million visitors came to Japan, 0.8% higher than in October 2019. That means the theme parks draw larger crowds even during typically slower periods. I expect even more visitors in 2024.
With that said, there are generally good times to visit based on crowd levels and weather:
- At the beginning of April, for nice warm weather and cherry blossoms.
- After May 6 (Golden Week), for lower crowds and favourable weather.
- End of October into November, see both Halloween and Christmas events.
These dates also work with Universal Studios Japan in Osaka, so that you can visit Super Nintendo World!
Things to keep in mind

Here are a few things to keep in mind as you’re planning that may affect your decision:
- Sindbad’s Storybook Voyage is closed for several months (February 13 – September 24, 2024).
- Pooh’s Hunny Hunt is closed for several months too (January 26 – May 24, 2024).
- Space Mountain closes permanently after July 31, 2024.
- Fantasy Springs opens on June 6, 2024.
Fantasy Springs opens on June 6, 2024, which means Tokyo DisneySea will be busy for quite some time. It’s hard to predict precisely, but I think June, July, and August will be the busiest. Keep an eye on the ride closures for Tokyo Disneyland and Tokyo DisneySea. You don’t want to miss out on attractions if they’re closed when you’re visiting.
When should I visit Fantasy Springs?
As mentioned above, the expansion opens on June 6, 2024. There may be soft openings, but we won’t know in advance what they’ll be or how they’ll work. This is a highly anticipated opening, so expect crowds to be heavy.
If you’re keen on visiting in 2024, I recommend staying in the fall to understand better how things will work with Fantasy Springs (and we have time to figure it out ourselves). Procedures for getting into the area, etc., will change, so it’s best to wait for the “bugs” to be worked out.
Please read our guide to Fantasy Springs, as we’ll keep you updated with new information.
Seasonal Events

Every month of the year has a seasonal event that brings merchandise, food, entertainment, and decorations. The first days of any seasonal event bring moderate to heavy crowds. Merchandise and food typically go on sale a week before the event’s start, increasing the crowd.
See our Tokyo Disney Resort events calendar for exact dates for seasonal events as they become available.
Pro Tip: The day before an event begins, the entertainment typically runs with a soft open. Check the official Tokyo Disney Resort app for times.
When is Tokyo Disneyland Busy?

The biggest question is, “When is it busy?” Tokyo Disneyland & Tokyo DisneySea are among the world’s top 5 most visited theme parks. The crowds at Tokyo Disneyland & DisneySea work differently from those in other Disney Parks. That leads to frustration and confusion for many Explorers.
You’ll see lines for everything from restaurants and popcorn stands to toilets on busy days.
Here’s when Tokyo Disney Resort is typically busy:
- New Year’s sees huge crowds right after December 25 (the Christmas event ends) through the first week of January.
- Spring Break is typically from the end of February to March (it varies by school in Japan).
- Golden Week is the busiest time at the Parks, a string of holidays from the end of April through the first week of May.
- Summer Holidays see huge crowds through July and August, with hot, humid weather.
Other times Tokyo Disneyland is busy
- Most weekends and public holidays are busy, no matter the time of year.
- Mondays can be as busy as weekends because schoolchildren have the day off for Sports Days.
- The first and last days of seasonal events are typically busier.
When is Tokyo Disneyland Least Crowded?

Sometimes, both Parks at Tokyo Disney Resort are not as crowded. The least crowded times are often considered among the best to visit Tokyo Disneyland.
Like most things in life, low crowds are not a guarantee. But I do my best to provide the best advice possible.
- January is the least crowded right after the New Year’s break.
- After the Golden Week holiday with ideal weather **
- Typhoon days (July through October) and rainy days (June is the rainy season) empty the parks.
** This has changed since many Explorers have found this not-so-secret. It’s now become a popular time for non-locals to visit.
Month-to-Month Breakdown of Crowds and Weather

I break down each month at Tokyo Disneyland and Tokyo DisneySea. I factor in weather, events, and crowds to help you decide. You can watch my video version of the chart below on YouTube!
| Month | Avg. Temperature | Crowd Levels & Weather |
|---|---|---|
| ✅ January | 5°C (41°F) | The cold temperatures and unpredictable crowds are due to student discounts. |
| ⚠️ February | 6°C (43°F) | Rainy Season. It’s hit-or-miss because some years don’t rain much. |
| ❌ March | 9°C (48°F) | Spring break for students and the added student discounts make for large crowds. |
| ⚠️ April | 14°C (57°F) | Warmer weather and chances to see Cherry Blossoms (Sakura). Visit before April 29 to avoid the start of Golden Week. This is a popular time with international tourists. |
| ✅ May | 18°C (64°F) | Typhoons bring high winds and heavy rain, which lowers the crowds. Parks remain open during most Typhoons (indoor attractions still operate). |
| ⚠️ June | 21°C (70°F) | Heat and humidity are unbearable. Summer holidays and Obon Week bring crowds to the park. |
| ❌ July | 25°C (77°F) | Heat and humidity are unbearable. Crowds are lower at the beginning of the month and pick up at the end due to summer vacation. |
| ❌ August | 26°C (79°F) | Heat and humidity are unbearable. Summer holidays and Obon Week bring Park capacity crowds. |
| ✅ September | 23°C (73°F) | Summer vacation is over, and the crowds are lower. It can still be hot. |
| ⚠️ October | 18°C (64°F) | Halloween can bring higher crowds due to its popularity. Typhoons can still occur. |
| ✅ November | 12°C (54°F) | Cold weather. Avoid the period between December 25 and the beginning of January due to the New Year holidays. |
| ⚠️ December | 8°C (46°F) | Cold weather. Avoid the period between December 25 and the beginning of January due to the New Year holidays. |
❌ Avoid: not ideal due to larger crowds and hot or cold weather
⚠️ Hit or Miss: Depends mainly on the weather
